Extraordinary minister of Communion or Lector

  • An Extraordinary Minister of Communion is a layperson who assists the priest in the distribution of Communion.
  • A Lector is a layperson who proclaims the first or second reading in the Liturgy of the Word.

The Eucharist constitutes the very life of the Church, for the Lord said, "I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me shall ever be hungry, no one who believes in me shall ever thirst."

Your willingness to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of the Communion or Lector reflects not only a response to your Baptismal call to serve the people of God, but a commitment to Christ as you share in the preaching, teaching and leading aspects of the church.  Your willingness to commit to a monthly schedule, to prepare properly for your service and to arrive on time dressed appropriately for Mass, further reflects that commitment.


Qualifications

  1. Must have received all three Sacraments of Initiation ( Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation ) .
  2. If married, must have been married in the Catholic Church, or had their marriage validated.
  3. Must be 18 years of age or older.
  4. Must be approved by our Pastor.
  5. Must take training sessions here at St. Bernard’ s .
  6. For those completing OCIA, at least two years as a fully initiated Catholic.
  7. Must be a registered member of our Parish and actively participating in the life of the Parish.
     

Time Requirements

  • Extraordinary Ministers of the Communion and Lectors are scheduled to serve at the Mass they normally attend.
  • If ministers are unable to serve at their scheduled time, they are required to submit a sub request through our scheduling program.
  • Ministers may be asked to serve at special celebrations throughout the year.
usher

  • An Usher is a layperson who with the other Ushers checks in ministers, greet and seat people, keep count of attendance and finds people to assist in offertory collection and gifts.

Your willingness to serve as an Usher reflects not only a response to your Baptismal call to serve the people of God, but a commitment to Christ as you share in the preaching, teaching and leading aspects of the church.  Your willingness to commit to a monthly schedule, to prepare properly for your service and to arrive on time dressed appropriately for Mass, further reflects that commitment.


Qualifications

  1. Must be approved by our Pastor.
  2. Must take training sessions here at St. Bernard’ s .
  3. Must be a registered member of our Parish and actively attending Mass
  4. Must be able to arrive at Mass 30 minutes before it begins.
  5. Must enjoy interaction with people


Time Requirements

  • Ushers are scheduled to serve at the Mass they normally attend.
  • If ushers are unable to serve at their scheduled time, they are required to submit a sub request through our scheduling program.
  • Ministers may be asked to serve at special celebrations throughout the year.
